PROJECT 1

ANALYSING PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES

40% of Final Mark

Tutor: Miss Sujatavani Gunasagaran

Passive design does not require mechanical heating or cooling. In this tropical climate, buildings that are passively designed take advantage of natural climate to maintain thermal comfort. Incorporating with passive design startegy, buildings significantly reduce the heat transfer between building and people. Thus, improve comfort in a person and also space.

In a group of 6, group will select one building which features two passive design strategies for tropical climate. Also, selection will be based on building certified and recognized as Green Mark / Green Building, certification may other be Platinum, Gold or Silver. Group must be able to indentify the principle of passive design strategies used for the building and having some researches before going for an interview or fieldtrip.

BUILDING : S11 HOUSE,PETALING JAYA

PASSIVE DESIGNS : CREEPERS (SHADING DEVICE)/ CROSS-VENTILATION & STACK EFFECT VENTILATION

RHINOCEROS 5

First, doing a massing model in Rhino aren't that easy. Due to lack of the creepers template, we draw all the leaves one by one. Up to thousands leaves make the software cracked for a few times. But, the result is worth for doing the whole night.

REVIT 2016

Import the file into Revit takes the longest time. After all the way here, finally we able to set the sun and shadow.'Don't rush things.Anything worth having is worth waiting for'. Revit is an efficient software to analysize the sun impact on the site. It fully shows the shades that created not only by the green wall, and also the overhang roof. At the same time, it considers the orientation, the spatial arrangement, window placement, daylight access and other design features, which the students should look into before designing a building.
